About the Project
This project was done as part of a university coursework over the span of around 2 months during termtime. The task was to create an interactive experience rather than a game, so the gameplay has been kept minimal while the main focus was the environment and atmosphere.
The game is a short walking simulator set on a space station with horror elements. The objective is to walk through the environment and retrieve an object from the final room.
The main aspect of this project is the visual design atmospheric elements. The dark and moody environment is designed to create a sense of unease and dread, with various special effects and animations adding to the tension. The highly detailed, yet chaotic environment, obscured by shadows is meant to intimidate and beset the player.
One of the main focus points of this project was the lighting and post processing effects. The stylised result emphasizes pitch black shadows giving more room for the imagination.
The game was developed in Unity using C#. All of the 3D models have been created by me in Blender. The sounds have been sourced from various 3rd party websites.
Development Contributions
Area | Responsibilities |
---|---|
Environment Design | Designed an atmospheric space station layout to guide narrative pacing and tension. |
Lighting | Focused on high-contrast visual language using post-processing and dynamic shadows. |
Scripting | Implemented all environmental interactions and environmental feedback using C#. |
3D Modeling | Created all station assets in Blender, with careful detail to clutter and contrast. |
Animation | Built scripted sequences (robotic movement, doors, alarms) to support atmosphere. |
Sound Design | Integrated third-party audio assets to reinforce horror cues and spatial depth. |
